Recently there has been a trend of growing shortage of many VET occupations, and deficit on the labour market of technical professions, especially in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Once the most popular option among three-year programmes, with over 50% of secondary school students in 2013, in Croatia apprenticeships have fallen by half in the past six years.

However, modernisation of VET programmes and equipment of new centres of excellence is aiming at drawing attention of young people and changing the direction of how CEME field is educated, practiced and promoted.
